Freelance Copy Editor and Proofreader
British WildlifeCalling all copy editors and proofreaders
We're looking to expand the pool of freelance copy editors and proofreaders we work with on our two magazines, British Wildlife and Conservation Land Management (CLM). If that's something you might be interested in, please read on
Who we're looking for
The perfect candidates will have passion for and experience with our subject matter or, even better, some familiarity with our publications. If you're someone with the knowledge to query mention of a particular species, a description of a habitat, or use of a conservation acronym, then you may be just the kind of person we're looking for.
But, that type of specialist expertise is not essential. We'd be equally happy to hear from anyone with an excellent eye for detail and consistency, willingness to dive in and get text into good shape for publication, and readiness to do a bit of research on the subject as and when needed.
The work we might need support with covers everything from in-depth structural editing through to final proofing ahead of print, so whatever your particular editorial specialism there may be opportunities.
What you can expect from us
We want to be upfront about the volume of work that might come your way. British Wildlife is published eight times per year, CLM is quarterly. That means we publish around 60 articles per year in total, and not all of those will need external support.
As a result, frequency and timing of work is always going to be sporadic. We won't be able to supply a regular flow of articles, and for the same reason we will never expect you to drop everything for us – if you can't help because of other commitments, we'll just get in touch whenever we next have editing needs.
We'll do our best to respond quickly and give as much notice as possible when there are requirements for editing/proofing, but we're a small team and things can get very busy around print deadlines, so some understanding and flexibility will always be appreciated.
