DDM is now launching two new websites in the dining (global) and Midwest travel niches. As a result, we’re looking to bring on a new freelance writer to assist with the launch of both efforts.

Role Overview

The Freelance Writer will be responsible for creating and updating long-form content such as restaurant and experience roundups, rewriting existing articles, and updating existing content for SEO for both new websites. Depending on business need and bandwidth, you may be tapped in to support Eva Darling periodically.

Reporting to the editor-in-chief and founder, you will support efforts to maintain a single editorial brand voice and grow site traffic from the ground up.

The ideal candidate is familiar with writing and drafting content specifically for SEO, but if you don’t have experience with it, no worries—you will be trained on SEO best practices and passed weekly topics by the EIC.

Note that this role may be ghostwriting or have a byline depending on writer experience, voice, and business need. Please do not apply if you are not comfortable with ghostwriting.

Responsibilities

• Writing or rewriting long-form dining and Midwest travel articles weekly (roughly 1800-2500 words)
• Managing creative placement and image selects for articles
• Optimizing existing onsite content for clarity, tone, recency, and formatting
• As needed: supporting the Content Assistant in updating out-of-date affiliate links and widgets

This is a part-time role with the expectation of 1 long-form article per week, plus up to 3 additional hours weekly for maintenance as needed.

Qualifications

• 1-2 years of experience in writing long-form content, preferable for a blog or publication in the travel or lifestyle verticals
• Fluent proficiency in English
• Impeccable attention to grammar and clear communication
• Familiarity with WordPress
• You’re critical, not judgmental, and have a keen eye for ultra-high-quality products, restaurants, hotels, and experiences (you know what high-low means!)
• Nice to have: previous experience writing and formatting for SEO
