Amenable is hiring some freelance writers to work with our Content Strategists to develop strategic messaging and materials for our clients and company. This individual will work with our team and clients to help develop distinctive brand voices which creatively engage, inspire, and motivate target audiences. Simply put, they’ll write a lot.*

*People don’t believe us. When we say it’s a lot of writing, we mean it’s a lot of writing.

Individuals in this role . . .

  • Like writing.
  • Support creative brand voices which communicate the heart of the brand through tone, language, writing, and editorial styles.
  • Edit ambitiously to maintain consistency throughout different types of content.
  • Listen attentively to clients to understand their heart, goals, and audiences.
  • Work with our team on website, branding, and communication projects to create meaningful and engaging content that accurately reflects our clients.
  • Collaborate with our Marketing Team to write inbound marketing content for social media, blog posts, emails, etc. for clients and Amenable.

We’re looking for individuals who…

  • Communicate with excellent verbal and written skills in a tone that fosters trust with our team and clients. (blah blah blah, this is in every application ever)
  • Have the ability to adopt the style, tone, and voice of the audience with whom they’re communicating.
  • Possess a strong attention to detail and the big picture in equal measure.
  • Possess excellent organizational skills to manage projects on a schedule.
  • Work independently and collaboratively, taking initiative or direction as necessary.
  • Have fun collaborating and connecting with our team and clients.
  • Effectively manage time, make decisions, and determine priorities.
  • Thrive when acquiring new skills and knowledge; a learner who isn’t intimidated by new ideas or technology.

But most importantly, we’re looking for people who exemplify the characteristics of our team values:

  • Start with trust. Trust is the glue of our relationships. We cultivate deep trust by listening wholeheartedly, communicating clearly, and leading proactively.
  • Bring the joy. Wherever we go, we bring the fun. We celebrate every win—even the small ones! And we look for opportunities to surprise and delight people.
  • Coach kindly. We empower people to grow their dreams and achieve their goals by coming alongside them. Always kind, we coach honestly, manage challenges calmly, and live generously.
  • Live optimistically. We hold a simple but grounded belief in the goodness and potential of ideas, people, and projects. This optimism drives us to work hard, live bravely, and focus on what matters most in life.
  • Plan & adapt. We’re planners who love change. We write plans in pencil and execute them in pen. Connecting authentically means we plan strategically, but always look for ways to creatively adapt to more effectively reach people.

The Day-to-Day Expectations

With this being a freelance remote role, you’re probably wondering what it actually entails, especially if you’re working another job and aren’t sure if you could fit this in. Not every week looks the same, but you can expect to:

  • Write creative blogs and social media posts on topics ranging from church culture to design trends to why you care about art. This is probably a bad fit if you just want to shut your brain off and copywrite, but a good fit if you like learning and writing about what you learn.
  • Support brand voices and follow direction on how to use them. This is basically vibe-setting. You might sit in on meetings, listen to an organization’s needs, and help them make smart language decisions about how to communicate who they are. Are they playful? Are they professional? How will they show that?
  • Embody brand voices when writing material for clients. Again, this is often more ambitious than copywriting, and it involves synthesizing a newly created brand identity into a cohesive tone across a web or brand project. A nonprofit will communicate very differently than a small business, and you get to figure out how to do it.
  • Edit other team members’ work. You can expect to read and edit a lot, and by “edit,” we don’t mean “spell-check.” There’s actually technology that does that for us now. Instead, this process involves giving feedback on what’s working, what isn’t working, and ways to strengthen a given blog post or web project.
  • Be relatively available via email. Freelancing is always pretty flexible, but we do need to ensure that projects are completed on time. You don’t need to be at our beck and call, but you should be accessible. Some projects are substantial enough that they can’t be thrown together in one fell swoop on the weekend, so it’s good to stay in the loop. (Oh, whoa, we just rhymed “swoop” and “loop.”)

And finally, four important details you should know:

  • This is a freelance contracted role for 6-30 hours/month. We’ll work with you on quantity and assignments.
  • This is a relatively flexible, remote position. While our team doesn’t have formal hours, this role does require engagement Monday–Friday when our team is working.
  • We are firmly anti-AI, so please don’t apply if it’s a part of your writing process. Everyone has different perspectives and standards on this, but it’s something we’ve decided to hold to as an organizational distinctive and non-negotiable.
  • Be respectful of team member and client time.
    • As a remote team, we often have the gift of flexibility, but if we aren’t careful, it can quickly become a curse. In the past, we have had large projects fall significantly behind because each “small” delay grows exponentially with so many people in our workflow.
    • With that in mind, all deadlines are firm. That doesn’t mean that extenuating circumstances can’t arise, but it does mean that you need to read through your tasks well in advance and over-communicate if they are ever too much to manage.
  • All applicants must have their own computer with a stable internet connection.
