Chubb is seeking a highly skilled Freelance Climate Thought Leadership Writer

This project and remote-based role demands a deeply technical writer with a robust background in climate science, policy, and business strategy. You will be instrumental in crafting sophisticated, nuanced and data-driven content that clearly articulates the commercial imperative and financial rationale for managing climate risks and pursuing decarbonization, reinforcing Chubb's position as a leader in strategic risk insight.

The Role: Technical Decarbonization & Strategic Business Value
The successful candidate will produce compelling, technically nuanced thought leadership that analyzes the science, policy, and, critically, the business case for addressing climate challenges. This includes, but is not limited to:

• Strategic Business Rationale: Articulating why and how managing physical and transition climate risks impacts core business operations, financial resilience, investment decisions, and competitive advantage. Content must connect technical climate issues directly to balance sheet implications, operational efficiency, and long-term viability.
• Climate Change and Physical Risk: Analyzing the technical science of intensifying physical climate risks (e.g., flood, wildfire, seismic risk) and framing them as urgent enterprise risk management challenges.
• Deep Decarbonization & Commercial Pathways: Creating authoritative content focused on the technical challenges, innovations, and return on investment (ROI) for key carbon reduction pathways. Specific focus areas include:
  • Industrial Emissions: Technical solutions and economic viability for decarbonizing hard-to-abate sectors like steel, concrete, and cement.
  • Energy Transition: Analyzing the technical and economic hurdles of scaling electricity generation from renewables, grid modernization, and associated investment risk.
  • Climate Technology (ClimateTech): Deep dives into emerging technologies (e.g., battery technologies, carbon capture, alternative fuels) and their market readiness and scaling challenges.

Translate complex scientific models, engineering innovations, and policy frameworks into strategic, action-oriented business content for CEOs, CFOs, and other senior decision-makers.

Collaborate closely with internal subject matter experts, including climate specialists, industry specialists, risk engineers, and claims professionals, to ensure content is technically flawless and commercially relevant.

Work with our internal editorial team and internal and external creative agencies to maintain Chubb's high editorial and brand standards.

Candidate Profile: Technical Acumen Meets Business Strategy
You are a technical writer who excels at synthesizing complex data and policy into clear, authoritative narratives that highlight the critical business case.

• Strategic Business Focus: Proven ability to frame technical climate topics through a risk management, financial modeling, or investment lens, demonstrating the commercial opportunity or threat.
• Deep Technical Acumen: Proven ability to rapidly understand and articulate the scientific and engineering complexities underlying climate change and specific carbon reduction pathways.
• Expert Writing Skills: Exceptional writing, editing, and research skills, with a portfolio showcasing high-level, data-driven thought leadership, research papers, or technical reports aimed at a senior business audience.
• Collaborative: Experience working effectively with diverse technical experts and creative teams under tight deadlines.
