Reporting to Portfolio Director

Verticals, Game Development & Embedded Systems Development

About Packt

Packt's mission is to help the world put software to work in new ways, through the delivery of effective learning and information services to IT professionals. We are a technical publisher and learning provider with over 400 staff based across the globe, primarily in India and the UK. Our products have global relevance, and our multimedia portfolio includes over 7,000 books, e-books, audiobooks, and video courses. For more details, visit .

Within Packt, the publishing business is spread across a number of verticals, each focused on a particular domain. This role is for the Game Development & Embedded Systems vertical.

About the Game Development & Embedded Systems Vertical

We are a cross-functional, impact-driven team powering two of the most exciting domains in tech:

Game Development – supporting indie developers, AAA studios, and technical artists with tools like Unreal, Unity, Godot, Blender, and ZBrush, covering everything from gameplay programming to procedural animation, shaders, audio, and monetization.

Embedded Systems – enabling engineers to build reliable, real-time software for smart devices across robotics, automotive, healthcare, and IoT, with a focus on RTOS, firmware, Edge AI, and connectivity.

Our mission: to deliver trusted, practical, and forward-thinking resources that help creators and engineers solve real-world problems and stay ahead in rapidly evolving industries.

Role Overview

As a Content Engineer in the Game Development & Embedded Systems vertical, you will co-own products from concept to publication. This means shaping books, newsletters, live events, and research assets so they are technically robust, clear, and commercially relevant.

The Content Engineer has a wider remit than traditional editorial roles, requiring ownership across the full lifecycle of each product. The role demands a high degree of adaptability to work across a diverse and expanding portfolio of products. You will be the Directly Responsible Individual (DRI) for the products that you work on, utilising skills such as:

  1. Market awareness (understanding user needs, competition, and trends).
  2. Domain curiosity (building literacy in toolchains, workflows, and user roles).
  3. A product mindset (ensuring outputs are aligned with audience impact and business goals).

You’ll work closely with authors, reviewers, and cross-functional colleagues to ensure that every title or product succeeds with both its audience and its commercial outcomes.

Our business is now structured around small, agile vertical teams, each focused on a specific tech domain or topic area, that combine publishing, product, relationship leadership, and marketing capabilities to build tailored content and learning solutions.

This means we move fast, experiment often, and work closely with our audiences to understand what they need. We're looking for people who thrive in a collaborative, entrepreneurial environment and who are motivated by delivering real impact, whether through building innovative products, shaping insightful content, enabling smarter systems and operations, or building and sustaining strong relationships with expert contributors and communities.
