Editor-in-Chief

(Commission-Based, Part-Time Leadership Role)

About the Role

The Editor-in-Chief is a core leadership role on our executive team at GROWN. This person will help guide the magazine’s editorial vision, operations, and growth, while also serving as a visible leader and representative of the brand.

This role is ideal for someone who sees editorial leadership as a platform and is excited by the intersection of storytelling, community, and brand partnerships.

Compensation

This is a commission-based role, with earnings tied to brand partnerships, sponsorships, and revenue-generating editorial initiatives you help bring in and close.

Responsibilities

  • Own and evolve GROWN’s editorial vision and voice working closely with our Founder
  • Oversee the full editorial calendar & newsletter
  • Manage staff writers, columnists, and contributors
  • Review and manage incoming pitch submissions
  • Collaborate on and help secure strategic brand partnerships
  • Align editorial strategy with GROWN’s business goals
  • Represent GROWN at events, panels, and industry spaces
  • Serve as a visible leader and spokesperson when appropriate

This Role Is For You If

  • You’ve led or managed editorial teams or publications
  • You’ve helped pitch, negotiate, or close brand partnerships
  • You’re comfortable with commission-based compensation
  • You’re excited about visibility and leadership
  • You want to build something long-term

Requirements

  • At least 2 years experience as a Editor-in-Chief, managing editor, or executive leadership at a media brand is preferred
  • Experience leading or managing an editorial team and publication (staff writers, freelancers, or contributors)
  • A strong understanding of editorial strategy and calendar planning
  • Experience working with or pitching brand partnerships, sponsorships, or paid editorial collaborations
  • Comfort collaborating with founders, brand partners, and cross-functional teams
  • A clear point of view and ability to maintain a consistent editorial voice across platforms

Bonus (but not required):

  • Experience in digital media startups, independent publications, or creator-led brands
  • Experience representing a brand publicly (panels, events, speaking engagements, social content, etc.)
  • Existing relationships with brands, agencies, or cultural partners
