Dial Delights, Dial’s trade paperback original publishing program, specializing in “love stories for the open hearted,” is seeking an Editor with an expertise in romance and romantic comedy to join our dynamic team.

While hybrid NYC is strongly preferred, we will consider remote (US) candidates with the right skills/experience/interest.

Specific Responsibilities Include:

• Identifying trends (especially in the romance and romantic comedy space and other burgeoning subcategories in the genre) and recruiting authors
• Experience editing romance, especially in the sub-genres of historical, dark romance, romantic suspense, and diverse romance.
• Evaluating book proposals and building the commercial, cultural, and financial cases for their acquisition, including creating profit and loss statements
• Negotiating and managing relationships with agents, especially in these categories, and developing relationships with new agents.
• Developing and finalizing manuscripts, including developmental and line editing, and writing sales- and consumer-facing copy, title information sheets, along with reading guide questions and value-add materials.
• Staying current on potential acquisitions of self-published authors with breakout potential
• Engaging and partnering with authors to fully realize their vision, and collaborating with a goal of transparency throughout the acquisition and production processes
• Positioning works for target readerships, then working with cover department, publicity, and marketing on developing publishing plans to reach the widest possible audience
• Working with production and managing editorial departments on copyediting, schedule, and design
• Handling daily correspondence, office work, phones, and attends required meetings
• Representing the publisher when working with authors, and representing the author and agent when working with our publisher, design, and production teams

Please apply if you meet the following qualifications:

• A minimum of 5 years of editorial experience and a keen interest in romance, and other categories poised for success in the trade paperback original format.
• Exceptional attention to detail and superb organizational skills
• Outstanding ability to prioritize in a deadline-driven environment; excellent time management skills and the ability to accommodate shifting schedules and deadlines
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• A collaborative spirit with great people skills; a team player with the ability to build relationships with other departments.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook

This is a hybrid position with in-office responsibilities (approximately 2-3 days a week). We will consider candidates who can work from a commutable distance to our offices at 1745 Broadway, which includes the tri-state area (NJ, CT, and NY).

The salary for this position is $73,500. All positions are currently eligible for annual profit award or bonus, subject to Company results.
