Black Lantern is expanding its eCommerce and SaaS practice, and we're looking for an SEO Specialist who knows how to move the needle on organic revenue — not just rankings.

eCommerce and SaaS SEO have their own logic: product and category architecture, faceted navigation, programmatic pages, conversion-aware content, and the technical scale that comes with large sites.

Role overview

We're seeking an SEO Specialist with expert-level capabilities who can drive organic growth as a core acquisition channel. This role goes beyond standard SEO execution — it requires a strategic thinker, data-driven operator and technical problem-solver who can translate business objectives into scalable SEO systems.

You'll be responsible for end-to-end SEO ownership, including strategy, execution, experimentation and performance accountability.

Key responsibilities

1. SEO strategy and growth ownership

  • Develop and execute holistic SEO strategies aligned with business goals (traffic, revenue, market expansion)
  • Identify high-impact opportunities across technical, content and authority (off-page)
  • Own SEO KPIs: organic traffic, rankings, conversions and revenue contribution
  • Conduct market, competitor and SERP-landscape analysis to identify growth gaps

2. Advanced keyword and search-intent research

  • Build keyword strategies based on search-intent modelling (informational, commercial, transactional) and topic clustering / semantic SEO
  • Map keywords to conversion-focused content funnels
  • Identify low-competition / high-ROI opportunities

3. Technical SEO leadership

  • Perform deep technical audits (crawlability, indexation, Core Web Vitals, site architecture)
  • Work with developers to implement structured data (Schema), internal-linking architecture and rendering optimisation (JS SEO)
  • Ensure compliance with Google guidelines and algorithm updates

4. Content strategy and optimisation

  • Design and manage SEO-driven content frameworks
  • Optimise for E-E-A-T (Experience, Expertise, Authority, Trust), topical authority and SERP features (featured snippets, PAA, etc.)
  • Collaborate with content teams to produce high-ranking, conversion-driven content

5. Authority building (off-page SEO)

  • Develop and execute link-building strategies
  • Analyse backlink profiles and competitor authority gaps
  • Build partnerships, digital-PR campaigns and outreach systems

6. Data, analytics and experimentation

  • Use tools like Google Search Console, GA4, Ahrefs and Screaming Frog
  • Build dashboards and track organic-performance trends, keyword movement and conversion attribution
  • Run SEO experiments (A/B testing, content updates, internal-linking tests)

7. Algorithm monitoring and adaptation

  • Stay ahead of Google algorithm updates (core updates, spam updates, helpful-content)
  • Diagnose traffic drops and implement recovery strategies
  • Continuously refine strategy based on search-engine evolution

Requirements

Core expertise

  • 1–3+ years of hands-on SEO experience
  • Proven track record of ranking competitive keywords and driving revenue
  • Strong understanding of technical SEO, content SEO and off-page SEO
  • Experience managing SEO in competitive niches — eCommerce, SaaS, marketplaces and lead generation

Technical skills

  • Familiarity with HTML, CSS and JavaScript (for SEO purposes), log-file analysis (bonus) and crawling and indexing systems
  • Experience with major SEO tools (Ahrefs, SEMrush, Screaming Frog, GSC)

Analytical and strategic thinking

  • Ability to translate data into actionable insights
  • Strong understanding of conversion funnels, user behaviour and search intent

Soft skills

  • Ownership mindset — treats SEO as a business function, not a task list
  • Strong communication with developers, content teams and stakeholders
  • Ability to prioritise high-impact actions over busywork

What defines an "expert" SEO specialist

  • Thinks in systems, not tasks (scalable SEO frameworks)
  • Focuses on ROI, not just rankings
  • Understands Google's intent, not just keywords
  • Can diagnose problems independently (traffic drops, indexation issues, penalties)
  • Balances technical depth, content strategy and business impact

Nice to have

  • Experience with programmatic SEO
  • AI-assisted content workflows
  • International SEO (hreflang, multi-market strategy)
  • Affiliate SEO / lead-generation models
