We are on the hunt for an AI-savvy Director of Editorial that has proven experience managing content functions that utilize AI to produce B2B content while maintaining a ridiculously high quality bar - if this is you, let's chat.
We are looking for someone who is:
π£ B2B Native: You get B2B - you intuitively understand the difference between an SDR and an AE, a VP of Engineering and a CTO, Support and CX, and you can spot when content sounds like it was written for a entry-level reader rather than an senior-level buyer.
π£ AI-Fluent: You understand how LLMs + RAG work. You are solid at prompting. You know what is possible with tools like AirOps, ChatGPT, and Claude. You can speak the language of our content engineers to get the results you need.
π£ A Systems Thinker: You don't just solve a problem once; you build a system so it doesn't happen again. You have experience documenting processes and training new hires effectively.
π£ A Constructive Coach: Your feedback makes coworkers excited for their next round of edits. You know how to help people move work from "pretty good" to "great" in a supportive manner.
π£ A "Buck Stops Here" Leader: You are comfortable owning the P&L for the editorial function and taking pride in the final product.

The Opportunity: Defining the Standard for AI-Augmented Content
Growth Plays is a boutique B2B content strategy and SEO agency that works with fast growing mid-market and enterprise companies like LaunchDarkly, AlphaSense, Cortex, and Calendly.
We have successfully integrated AI into our content engine to handle scale. We have "Content Engineers" building workflows and an "Operations Manager" handling project management and logistics. Now, we need a leader to own the standard.
We're looking for a Director of Editorial who understands that AI is a powerful technology, You will not be coding workflows all day, we have content engineers for that. Your job is to be the standard bearer for quality. You will manage the process, the people, and the inputs (Brand Kits & Knowledge Bases) to ensure our content resonates with sophisticated B2B buyers and is completely free of generic AI slop that alienates readers and harms brand perception.
The Team & Your Position
You Manage
-
Project/Ops Manager: They handle scheduling, client communications, compiling feedback, and assigning work to freelancers so you can focus on strategy.
-
Freelance Network: You will hire, train, and manage our network of freelance editors.
You Collaborate With:
-
Content Engineers: You are their internal "client." You provide the feedback loops, identifying where outputs are failing to meet the mark, guiding them to refine workflows and prompts until the output meets your high standards.
- While you will delegate content engineering and admin work, you will absolutely be rolling up your sleeves to edit complex pieces and refine workflows personally when needed.
-
Account Managers: They are your internal "client." When thereβs an issue with client deliverables, you will need to work with the AMs to get more context and alter workflows + the human review process to get things back on track.
-
You Report To: The Founder & CEO. You will have weekly 1:1s to align on focus, issues, experimentation, hiring needs, and P&L.
What You Will Accomplish
1. Eradicate "AI Slop" & Enforce Quality
- We have a zero-tolerance policy for robotic, low-effort AI writing. You are the firewall.
- You will eradicate AI-isms (e.g., "delve," "tapestry," "in todayβs fast paced world") and build systems to spot hallucinations to ensure they never reach a client or their audience.
- You will build and maintain the "Human Review Standards" that our editors use to turn raw AI outputs into polished, high-authority content that feels handcrafted.
2. Own Context for Every Client
- Our AI is only as good as the context we give it. You are responsible for the quality of our Knowledge Bases and Brand Kits.
- You will conduct or oversee expert interviews and research to ensure our RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) systems are stocked with specific, high-level expert insights, and not generic 101-level fluff that leads to low quality outputs.
- You will bridge the gap between "technical accuracy" and "brand voice," ensuring the context we feed the AI aligns with client positioning.
3. Lead the Feedback Loop
- You are the voice of the client. When AI outputs are "passable," you push them to "excellent."
- You will work with Content Engineers to spot and solve for recurring issues (e.g., "The AI keeps hallucinating features for this product", βThe content is 101 and it needs to be 400-levelβ, "The tone is too salesy" etc.).
