Job Title: Digital Media & Content Specialist
Status: Full-Time, Non-Exempt
Department: Administration
Reports to: Senior Director of Engagement

POSITION SUMMARY:


The Digital Media & Content Specialist advances the YMCA’s mission of strengthening community by sharing authentic stories that connect people to their potential, purpose, and one another. This role captures and communicates the impact of YMCA programs, members, staff, and community partnerships through compelling digital content.


Working under the direction of the Senior Director of Engagement and aligned with the YMCA’s strategic priorities, this position produces and distributes engaging content across social media platforms and digital channels. Through thoughtful storytelling and consistent brand representation, the role helps strengthen community awareness, engagement, and connection to the YMCA mission.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Assist in developing and implementing a comprehensive social media strategy including Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, and YouTube.
2. Identify emerging trends and innovative content opportunities.
3. Plan, schedule, and publish timely, mission-aligned content.
4. Write clear, compelling copy aligned with the YMCA’s brand voice.
5. Edit and proofread all content for accuracy and consistency.
6. Develop and edit written copy for marketing materials including flyers, signage, program promotions, and digital communications.
7. Support program directors in developing promotional materials such as flyers, signage, digital graphics, 
and communications that promote YMCA programs, events, and initiatives.
8. Capture and produce high-quality, engaging photo and video content.
9. Work independently in the field to identify storytelling opportunities.
10. Maintain brand consistency across all digital platforms.
11. Identify impactful story angles that highlight the YMCA’s community impact.
12. Pitch and execute storytelling series or recurring content themes.
13. Monitor analytics and prepare reports to support data-driven improvements.
14. Manage the social media content calendar.
15. Support digital communications including website updates, program promotions, and online content aligned with YMCA priorities. 

16. Support YMCA fundraising activities, campaigns, and special events through content creation and promotion.
17. Adhere to all local, state, and YMCA policies and procedures, including ADA accommodations where appropriate.
18. Model YMCA core values and use the Y-Voice: Welcoming, Hopeful, Determined, Genuine, and Nurturing. Support and guide other staff in demonstrating these behaviors consistently across the program.
19. Perform additional duties as assigned to support the YMCA’s mission and organizational priorities.

Actively seeks opportunities to strengthen digital media and storytelling skills while supporting staff in understanding how communications and social media amplify the YMCA mission.


QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor’s degree preferred or equivalent experience.
• Must be at least 21 years of age.
• Minimum of 1 year of experience in social media or digital content creation.
• Strong writing, editing, storytelling, interviewing, and listening skills.
• Experience with photography, videography, and editing software.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

REQUIRED TRAINING AND CERTIFICATIONS (or willingness to obtain upon hire):

• Bloodborne Pathogens Training (or equivalent approved by the YMCA)
• Mandatory Child Abuse Reporting Certification
• Emergency Procedures Training
• CPR and First Aid Certification


WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

• Ability to lift up to 25 pounds safely and repeatedly using proper technique.
• Ability to plan, lead and participate in activities.
• Adapt to a fast-paced, team-centered work environment with frequent interruptions and shifting 
priorities.
