Position: Data journalist (full-time)

Location: Amsterdam

What stories are hidden in databases? How can research be visualised using data? And how do you turn dry facts into a compelling narrative?

Follow the Money is immediately seeking a journalist who can conduct, visualise, and publish high-profile, data-driven investigations.

Follow the Money is a radically independent news outlet for investigative journalism. Our mission: to uncover the truth in the interest of society. We achieve this with in-depth investigations on diverse topics, such as healthcare, climate change, the financial sector, and the defence industry. You can read more about our mission here.

Who we're looking for

A reporter at Follow the Money is curious, courageous, and tenacious – someone with the stamina to dig into mountains of data and who knows how to emerge with stories that matter.

As a data journalist, you should be proficient in Python (and handle vibe coding responsibly), have a strong interest in – and experience with – data visualization and statistics, and be comfortable with web scraping and building scrapers.

You must have sharp journalistic instincts and be able to process data into a compelling story. Naturally, you should be able to work well with the creative team and other editors.

Where candidates are equally qualified, preference will be given to applicants who help enhance the diversity of our editorial team.

What we offer

Our outlet has a lively editorial team in Amsterdam, with Vondelpark on its doorstep. We are a relatively flat organisation, where you will work alongside our experienced investigative journalists, data journalists, and audio and video editors. We are the ideal place to delve into a topic for a longer period of time.

We offer full-time employment and adhere to the Collective Labor Agreement for the Publishing Industry (which will be phased in between now and 2028). 

This position is classified in scale 4, with a minimum salary of € 3,885.77 and a maximum salary of € 6,297.98, based on a 36-hour work week). Salary is based on education and work experience.
