Contributing Writers

We're looking for contributing writers for our first print and online edition of Reject magazine.
Every accepted submission will receive $50. Any additional money raised from our Kickstarter campaign from now until mid-September will mean more payment for our writers.
Submissions close September 19th!
Submission Guidelines
[1] We accept writing that wasn’t accepted by a publication, institution, contest, etc. Hell, even your school newspaper and family Christmas newsletter counts!
Poetry, short stories (8,000-word limit), essays, lyrics, and articles are all welcomed.
[2] We're gonna pass on pornography.
[3] Writing that contains hate speech won't be tolerated, let alone accepted. So gross.
[4] Submissions will be reviewed by our editor. We aim to provide feedback within four weeks of receipt. Selected works will be published in our next (read: first!!) issue.
[5] It can be tempting to use AI to generate your work, but please don't for a Reject submission. It's not super fun to write/generate, and it's even less fun to read.

Reject magazine is a literary space for storytellers who embrace rebellion, resilience, and the belief that every story deserves a home.
The publication focuses on work that has previously been rejected by other outlets, welcoming writers whose poems, short stories, essays, lyrics, or articles did not find a place elsewhere. With an 8,000-word limit for short stories.
