MO helps government leaders achieve their mission by designing intuitive and sustainable customer experiences that build trust and improve satisfaction. We use human-centered design (HCD) to modernize and transform user and employee experiences. We’re a small team of interdisciplinary creatives with mission, impact, and service to others deeply rooted in our DNA. We’re naive enough to believe we can change the world and bold enough to take the chance to do it.

We combine design thinking with continuous discovery and delivery methods to drive visionary, human-centered products to market. Our custom solutions range in size from completely revamping an entire application to refreshing small pieces of a larger product. Everyone at MO directly impacts the direction and success of the company, and we own our roles. We value integrity, curiosity, and courage, and we operate collaboratively and with accountability while consistently challenging each other in the pursuit of excellence. At MO, we delight in creating one-of-a-kind products and experiences. Your imagination is the only limit on what you can do here!

Overview

Are you looking to make an impact? We are looking for a Content strategist, with strong information architecture and copy writing skills, to support our client at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). In your work and through your design expertise you will improve health outcomes for 16M+ Veterans, Caregivers, Survivors and Family Members by reducing barriers to accessing care and benefits within the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).

In this position, you will be working in a small, cross-functional team of Researchers, Designers, Product Managers, and Technical practitioners to support Veterans in a behavior change campaign so that they may access and use their benefits on VA.gov. If you have experience integrating HCD practices into the deployment of impactful, scalable services – with physical and digital touchpoints – and enjoy simplifying complexity into intuitive and accessible experiences, we’d love to hear from you.

A passion for our mission and civic design is a must-have.

This position will remain open for one week.

What You’ll Do

  • User-Centric Discovery and Information Organization: Implement mixed-method discovery approaches that uncover deep insights into people’s (customer’s) behaviors, desires, and pain points. Use these insights to inform and shape content strategy. Structure content to align with user needs, creating clear hierarchies, categories, and tagging systems that improve discoverability and usability for various user groups.
  • Prototyping and Testing: Collaborate with designers in iterations by creating and testing low to high-fidelity prototypes to validate assumptions, uncover content opportunities, and deliver solutions that resonate with targeted user groups.
  • Design System Implementation: Collaborate with product management, design and development teams to ensure the successful implementation of accessible content in government spaces, maintaining consistency across touchpoints. Organize content in a way that respects user privacy, promotes data security, and represents diverse perspectives without bias, supporting ethical civic engagement.
  • Campaign Content Strategy: Improve the customer experience by transforming research insights and customer needs into digestible content across government mediums, platforms, and channels. Create intuitive information flows and navigation systems that guide users through complex civic processes and services efficiently.
  • Public-facing Documentation: Create plain language technical documentation (e.g., FAQs, articles, playbooks) in tools like GitHub or Sharepoint that serve as reliable reference for future activations by different teams in the ecosystem.
  • Metrics and Impact Analysis: Utilize data-driven insights to analyze the effectiveness and impact of content strategy solutions, driving continuous improvement and innovation.

What We’re Looking For

  • Passion for Civic Service: A strong desire to create positive social impact through design, demonstrated by at least 3+ years of experience in multi-channel content strategy and development, and team collaboration on complex service design projects with diverse stakeholder relationships.
  • People-Centric Advocacy: Extensive experience as a people (customer/user) advocate, with a strong command of accessibility, Section 508 compliance, and a nuanced understanding of the challenges posed by user research barriers in the public sector and healthcare domain (e.g., PRA, HIPAA, DEI&A).
  • Versatile Research Proficiency: Passion for and competence in conducting research across both undefined and defined problem spaces, utilizing design research and strategic thinking to frame opportunities, as well as clearly defined problem spaces, employing co-creation, CX and UX research and testing to envision and optimize content for the market.
  • Impactful Creative and Strategic Skills: Information Architecture: Structure content through effective categorization, taxonomy, and metadata systems, ensuring user-friendly navigation and consistent content structures across multiple platforms and channels. Content Strategy: Develop comprehensive content strategies that align with campaign goals, address audience needs, and ensure consistency across all digital and physical media channels. Copywriting and Content Creation: Produce clear, engaging, and accessible content tailored to diverse civic tech audiences while maintaining consistent tone and voice across various formats, from web copy to print materials. Digital and Physical Production: Contribute to managing content production across digital platforms and physical media, ensuring seamless collaboration with design and production teams and optimizing content for different channels and devices.
  • Growth Mindset and Continuous Learning: Commitment to learning and embracing new ideas and methodologies. Ability to create collaborative environments with empathy, fostering behaviors that drive experience transformation.
  • Consultative Approach and Client Understanding: A consultative approach to understanding client expectations, working effectively in agile teams, and being accountable for delivering against user needs. Advocate for HCD practices to ensure accessibility.
