JOB HIGHLIGHTS
POSITION PURPOSE: The Content Specialist is responsible for supporting Visit Detroit's content marketing initiatives across social media, web, blog, video, and digital channels. This position assists in the creation, management, and distribution of compelling destination content that inspires travel, promotes Detroit as a premier destination, and engages leisure travelers, meeting planners, media, and local stakeholders. The Content Specialist serves as a key support resource for both the Social Media Producer and Content Producer, helping maximize the reach and effectiveness of Visit Detroit's content ecosystem.
LOCATION & SCHEDULE
- Full time
- This position currently involves a hybrid working model with 2 days remote and 3 days in the office in Detroit, MI.
WHAT WE REQUIRE
- Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Journalism, Graphic Design, or related field from an accredited college or university, or equivalent work experience.
- 2-4 years of experience developing and creating digital content for brands, agencies, media organizations, tourism organizations, or related industries.
- Experience writing and editing content for web, blog, social media, and digital marketing channels.
- Valid, unrestricted Michigan driver's license.
PREFERRED
- 4+ Years of experience in content marketing, digital marketing, or integrated marketing is preferred.
- Experience with Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, Premiere Pro, Lightroom, or similar creative tools.
- Experience capturing photo and video content using DSLR/mirrorless cameras, mobile devices, and content production equipment.
- Familiarity with content management systems (CMS), SEO tools, Google Analytics, and social media management platforms.
- Experience with YouTube content production and channel management.
- Familiarity with the destination marketing, tourism, hospitality, or travel industries.
- Familiarity with the destination marketing industry and the Detroit metro area and attractions.
HOW YOU'LL CONTRIBUTE
- Support the planning, creation, and execution of content across social media platforms including Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube, and emerging channels.
- Assist the Social Media Producer with content capture, editing, publishing, community engagement, and campaign execution.
- Support the Content Producer in the development and distribution of long-form content, including YouTube videos, blogs, website content, destination guides, and storytelling initiatives.
- Coordinate content collection efforts, including photography, video, interviews, and destination experiences.
- Write, edit, proofread, and optimize content for blogs, website pages, email marketing, YouTube descriptions, and social media captions.
- Assist in maintaining content calendars and production schedules across marketing channels.
- Upload, organize, and manage digital assets within Visit Detroit's content and asset management systems.
- Collaborate with internal departments and external partners to support content opportunities that align with organizational goals.
- Assist with content optimization efforts, including SEO best practices, metadata, keyword implementation, and content performance monitoring.
- Assist in monitoring content performance metrics and contribute to reporting and recommendations to improve engagement, reach, and conversions.
- Support influencer, creator, and partner content collaborations as assigned.
- Stay current on content marketing trends, social media best practices, video storytelling techniques, and emerging digital platforms.
- Assist with content creation and onsite support at Visit Detroit events, partner activations, conventions, and community initiatives.
OTHER CONTRIBUTIONS
- Support special projects for the Marketing Department and organizational initiatives.
- Assist with the ongoing development, organization, and enhancement of Visit Detroit's digital content and asset libraries.
- Provide administrative and production support for content shoots, campaigns, and partner collaborations.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND COMPETENCIES
- Strong writing, editing, storytelling, and content creation skills for digital marketing channels, including social media, websites, blogs, and video platforms.
- Understanding of social media platforms, content marketing fundamentals, audience engagement techniques, SEO best practices, and content optimization.
- Experience working with photography, video, and digital asset management tools.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with team members, partners, and stakeholders to support content initiatives.
- Ability to follow established brand standards and tailor content for different audiences and channels.
- Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a team environment.
- Basic knowledge of digital performance measurement and reporting.
- Strong ability to organize, prioritize, and manage multiple assignments.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
- Available to work evenings, weekends, and travel as needed.
