Title: Programming Associate
Location: Remote forever (with some travel), open to North America-based applicants only
Summary: This is a rare opportunity to shape the intellectual agenda of one of the world's most influential communities, and rapidly grow in responsibility. If you're a top-tier communicator and operator with wide-ranging intellectual interests, this role is for you.
Background: Dialog’s mission is to help leaders learn and become more effective. It does so by facilitating deep, off-the-record conversations for influential participants varied in background and ideology. Since its founding in 2006 by Peter Thiel and Auren Hoffman, Dialog has grown into a global community of thousands of leaders spanning political, business, tech, creative, military, and academic disciplines from 50+ countries.
Why Now: Dialog hosts three annual, 300+ person retreats. In 2020, we launched a membership program (currently with ~1,000 members) offering monthly programming that includes dozens of curated conversations, both online and in-person, designed for Dialog members to learn from one another. We need a sharp operator to own this programming end-to-end.
Responsibilities: You will wear many hats and move fast. Below will be your initial responsibilities, with room to take on more:
- Propose a monthly slate of Zoom events by staying on top of current events and researching a wide array of interesting topics
- Identify compelling world-class experts on those topics and persuade them to join Zoom discussions with members
- Research those topics to craft provocative discussion questions
- Send invitations, run scheduling, and manage communications with each event’s participants
- Own the full life-cycle of recurring small-group cohorts (“Brain Trusts”): build the groups, handle logistics and calendar invites, and track participation throughout the quarter
- Design unique and nonobvious formats for introverts to connect deeply in-person and online
- Manage and delegate smaller administrative tasks to an executive assistant
Requirements: 1-4 years of full-time work experience. In addition:
- Ability to work independently with an owner mindset, manage multiple priorities, and thrive in ambiguity and under pressure (Dialog is a small team and operates like a fast-growing startup)
- Top-tier email writer (direct, concise, and efficient) and highly responsive
- Insanely organized and detail-oriented, love fine-tuning processes to make them more efficient
- Read voraciously and widely, interested in many diverse topics
- Assertive and persuasive communicator (you’ll be cold-emailing world-class experts and convincing them to participate)
- Exemplify the Dialog culture: intellectually curious on an extremely broad range of things, hold nonobvious (even controversial) viewpoints, willing to be personal and vulnerable, able to engage in interesting conversations with anyone
Benefits:
- Fast path to greater responsibility - within 6 months, you'll take on significantly more
- High level of flexibility, including remote work (forever) and variable working hours
- Opportunity to travel for work, including one international event each year
- Health, dental, vision, and 401(k)
- Starting salary: $80-110K, depending on level of experience
