Learn Politics is a civic and political education platform focused on improving political literacy, strengthening democratic engagement, and making political knowledge accessible to citizens. Through courses, research, public conversations, and digital platforms, the organization equips individuals with the knowledge and tools needed to better understand politics, governance, and public policy.
Role Overview
The Communications Officer will support the organization’s communications and audience engagement strategy. This role goes beyond traditional communications by focusing on building an active learning community around political education, research, and public dialogue.
The officer will shape how the organization communicates its courses, research insights, policy conversations, and civic education initiatives to a growing audience of students, professionals, and citizens interested in politics and governance.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Communications
- Develop and implement a communications and audience engagement strategy aligned with the organization’s mission.
- Strengthen the organization’s voice as a trusted platform for political learning and policy discussions.
- Identify opportunities to expand visibility and thought leadership in civic and political education.
Content and Storytelling
- Support the development high-quality written and digital content including articles, explainers, newsletters, social media content, and program highlights.
- Translate complex political and policy issues into clear, engaging, and accessible content.
- Produce storytelling that highlights the impact of the organization’s courses, programs, and research.
Community and Audience Engagement
- Build and nurture an engaged community of learners, participants, and followers across digital platforms.
- Facilitate engagement before, during, and after events such as webinars, masterclasses, and public conversations.
- Develop strategies to increase participation in courses, programs, and public discussions.
Digital Platform Management
- Manage and grow the organization’s digital presence across social media, website, and mailing lists.
- Plan and schedule content that promotes courses, research outputs, events, and civic education initiatives.
- Monitor analytics and engagement metrics to refine communication strategies.
Program and Event Communications
- Lead communication for public events including Twitter/X Spaces, panel discussions where necessary
- Support the development of promotional materials and communication campaigns for programs and initiatives.
- Coordinate live engagement during events and manage post-event communication.
Research and Policy Communication
- Work closely with the research and programs teams to communicate insights from policy discussions and research outputs.
- Develop simplified explainers, infographics, and summaries that make political and policy topics accessible to broader audiences.
Partnerships and Media Engagement
- Identify opportunities for collaborations with media platforms, civic organizations, and educational institutions.
- Support media outreach and external communications for major announcements and initiatives.
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Political Science, Public Policy, Media Studies, or a related field.
Experience
- 1-2 years of relevant experience in communications, media, public engagement, or digital content strategy.
- Experience working or volunteering with civic organizations, think tanks, education platforms, research institutions, or nonprofits is highly desirable.
Skills and Competencies
- Excellent writing, editing, and storytelling skills.
- Strong ability to translate political and policy ideas into accessible content.
- Strong understanding of digital engagement and online community building.
- Experience managing social media platforms and newsletters.
- Familiarity with tools such as Canva, Google Workspace, and content scheduling platforms.
- Basic graphic design, multimedia storytelling, or video editing skills are an advantage.
- Strong organizational and project management skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects.
