About the Company

If you’ve spent time in direct response or performance marketing and think the key is a new twist on the same old bag of tactics, stop reading. That mindset is the operating system we’re replacing, not repeating. If you’ve written fundraising copy and believe “best practice” is something to preserve rather than tear down and rebuild, also not a fit.

DonorVoice exists for the opposite reason. We help charities raise more by shifting from a system built on asking often with one size fits all, tactical soup to one built on understanding why people give. Fundraising’s core model is collapsing under its own weight. Too many asks, too little meaning, too little differentiation. We rebuild around how people actually think, feel, and decide.

We’re the behavioral science fundraising firm that treats writing as psychological design. We tailor to Identity, Personality and Moral Frame with heavy doses of motivation supportive autonomy, competence, and relatedness and leading with narrative transportation. If that feels like buzzwords, then we're not a fit as they’re the architecture behind the scenes.

We come with a point of view about the future and leading, not following. We raise standards; we don’t lower bars. Steel-sharpens-steel is not rhetoric, it’s daily life. If that resonates instead of repels, keep reading.

About the Role

We’re hiring a Writer with formal training in creative writing and professional experience producing copy for real audiences. This role requires someone who understands narrative structure and the technical work required to produce high quality storytelling that feels personal. You’ve learned your craft the hard way, not through “content creation,” but through actual writing discipline.

You’ll write narrative-driven, psychology-informed copy for email, direct mail, landing pages, and digital fundraising. You’ll also help shape and refine our custom AI writing system and serve as both its daily operator and the person responsible for product roadmap.

You need to be someone who already uses AI in your own writing practice and sees it not as a shortcut but as a multiplier. This job blends craft, behavioral science, and systems thinking. If you can only do one of the three, you’ll be exposed quickly.

Responsibilities

  • Write narrative-driven copy rooted in behavioral science. You’ll translate principles of identity, personality, moral frame and motivation into messaging that feels personal, specific, and psychologically coherent.
  • Operate and evolve our custom AI writing tool. You’ll shape workflows and outputs and treat the system as a creative collaborator that amplifies your ability to think and produce.
  • Collaborate with behavioral scientists and client teams. Writing here doesn’t operate in isolation. You’ll help turn strategy into systems and ensure creative decisions tie back to actual donor psychology and evidence.
  • Protect craft and quality.

Qualifications

  • Formally trained as a writer: undergraduate or graduate work in creative writing.
  • Professionally experienced: you’ve written copy for audiences and understand how words perform, not just how they sound.
  • A current AI user: you’re already integrating AI into your workflow and understand how to direct, constrain, and shape it.
  • High in Conscientiousness and Openness: you take the work seriously and push yourself to learn rather than defend old habits.
  • Drawn to behavioral science: you want writing to be grounded in how people actually think, feel, and decide.
  • Uncomfortable with mediocrity: you don’t want a place where ideas go unchallenged or where “good enough” survives.

What We Offer

  • A chance to write in a discipline few writers ever touch: the intersection of behavioral science and narrative craft.
  • A culture built on evidence and rigor, not convention. We expect curiosity, debate, and the ability to articulate why choices matter.
  • Work that influences how organizations raise money and how donors experience giving.

If this feels like the right problem set for your skill set, we should talk.
