Job Title: Magazine Editor

Insights Magazine, for the Awards and Personalization Association

Ampersand Publishing is seeking an experienced editor for Insights magazine, representing the Awards and Personalization Association (APA). Ampersand Publishing serves as a contract publisher and collaborates closely with APA to produce its member magazine.

Insights magazine is published six times a year and is a 40-page, plus cover, magazine. We estimate each issue requires 40–50 hours of management.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee the planning of each issue in collaboration with APA.
• Commission magazine stories to contract writers (and photographers). Collaborate with writers to develop content and ensure all content is delivered on deadline.
• Draft any stories that were not commissioned, including but not limited to the editing and redrafting of press releases for the Industry News, Products, and Equipment departments.
• Assure all photography is captured and submitted by the deadline. Review all photography to ensure artwork is press-quality.
• Edit all content per house style and AP Style. Fact-check all content, prepare for the copy editor and the graphic designer.
• Collaborate with the magazine graphic designer and Ampersand Publishing publisher on layout, proofreading, and preparation for press.
• Schedule planning sessions with APA for future editions. Collectively, the team will also work to plan content as far in advance as possible, including the opportunity to generate ideas and content at the annual association EXPO (February).

What We’re Looking For

• Experience editing B2B magazines and working within B2B publishing
• Experience with Associated Press style guide
• Experience working within Google/Word, Adobe Reader
• The editor should be a self-starter and highly organized to project manage each edition effectively
• Someone familiar with the awards and personalization industry (preferred)

Role Details

• This is a remote, contract position
• Candidate should provide their own computer, internet access, and phone
• Must be available to meet within regular business hours
• Some travel may be required
• Hourly rate will match the candidate’s experience
