Experience - 5+

Responsibilities:

  1. Develop assessment questions for various subject areas, including Social Studies, targeting students in grades 7-12.
  2. Collaborate with curriculum specialists, subject matter experts, and educators to ensure alignment of assessment questions with relevant state standards, national standards (e.g., Central Board of Secondary Education, State Boards), and curriculum frameworks.
  3. Design questions that assess a range of cognitive skills and levels of complexity appropriate for secondary-level learners, including critical thinking, problem-solving, analysis, and synthesis.
  4. Write clear and concise question stems and response options, ensuring questions are free from ambiguity and bias and adhere to established question writing guidelines and best practices.
  5. Create question specifications documents outlining the content, skills, and standards targeted by each question, as well as any special considerations or accommodations for diverse learners.
  6. Develop scoring guides, rubrics, and exemplars to facilitate consistent and accurate scoring of constructed-response questions, performance tasks, and other non-traditional question formats.
  7. Conduct question reviews and revisions based on feedback from internal stakeholders, external reviewers, and pilot testing data, ensuring questions are valid, reliable, and fair.
  8. Collaborate with assessment specialists, psychometricians, and data analysts to analyze question and test performance data, identify opportunities for improvement, and make data-driven decisions to enhance question quality and test validity.
  9. Stay informed about current trends, research, and developments in secondary education, assessment, and standards to inform question development practices and contribute to continuous improvement of assessment products and processes.
  10. Support and guide colleagues and team members on question development processes, standards alignment, and best practices for secondary-level assessment.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Education, Curriculum and Instruction, Assessment and Measurement, or a related field. Master's degree preferred.

Experience:

  1. Experience in educational assessment development, preferably at the secondary level (grades 7-12).
  2. Strong knowledge of secondary-level curriculum frameworks, educational standards (e.g., Central Board of Secondary Education, State Boards), and proficiency in aligning assessment questions to these standards.
  3. Familiarity with various question types (e.g., multiple-choice, constructed-response, performance-based) and their respective scoring methodologies.

Skills:

  1. Excellent writing and editing skills with the ability to craft clear, engaging, and academically rigorous assessment questions.
  2. Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
  3. Collaborative mindset with the ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams and communicate with diverse stakeholders.
  4. Commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion in assessment design and practice.
  5. Knowledge of psychometric principles and practices is a plus.
