AI Strategist

Tenex
Full-time
Remote friendly in (New York City)
United States
$160,000 - $50,000 USD yearly
Content Strategy, AI and Automation

I'm building McKinsey for AI.

It's called Tenex & it's the established organization's Chief AI Officer.

"McKinsey is McKinsey for AI" I hear you muttering under your breath.

Here's the truth most big consultancies don't want you to know. Most consultants don't know shit about AI or technology.

They're not engineers. They haven't built companies. They haven't lived the pains of their clients.

How do I know this? I've spoken to dozens of consultants at these consultancies(!) that say so.

We’re growing revenue faster than venture-backed software businesses, have an insane team, and need to scale headcount ASAP.

First, we're looking for an AI Strategist.

You have one job. Make our clients happy AF.

What does that look like? A combo of strategy & engineering work that helps a business realize their potential with AI.

Must haves:
1) Abilities of a 10x engineer. You should be a high-performing generalist with a specialty in some part of the stack. You know who you are.
2) Communication skills of a top strategic seller. Confident orator, active listener, consultative relationship-builder.
3) Your oven (IQ) burns hot, but your fire (motivation) burns even hotter.
4) Yes, we are looking for a unicorn.

Tenex AI Strategist

Full‑time · Hybrid (NYC preferred)

About Tenex

Tenex is a Chief AI Officer for forward-thinking mid-market & enterprise companies. We’re a full-stack strategic technology partner that helps you identify the highest ROI AI opportunities in your business, set your transformation strategy, and execute through a combination of technology & change management offerings.

The job in a sentence

Be the voice of our client—translate their goals into reality by uncovering bottlenecks and inefficiencies, aligning stakeholders, and executing change‑management and software‑implementation plans that unlock AI‑driven leverage.

What you’ll do

Scope How it shows up
AI Strategy Audits Lead 2‑ to 4‑week diagnostic engagements to map workflows, quantify pain points, surface data assets, and prioritize the highest‑ROI use‑cases for AI. Deliver an executive‑ready audit that ranks opportunities by impact × effort and includes a phased roadmap.
Product‑Strategy Sprints When a pain point is known but the path forward isn’t, orchestrate a focused deep dive—customer interviews, rapid prototyping, and implementation planning—to converge on a solution the client can green‑light in weeks, not quarters.
Workflow Automation & Build Pair with Forward‑Deployed Engineers to stand up automated or AI‑driven workflows using off‑the‑shelf SaaS, low‑code platforms, or Tenex’s internal tools. When needed, roll up your sleeves in Python, SQL, or Zapier to ship an MVP.
Change Management & Enablement Design and run training workshops that turn “cool demo” into daily habit. Measure adoption, iterate on UX, and equip champions inside the client org to sustain momentum.
Stakeholder Management Engage directly with C‑suite executives, line‑of‑business owners, and end‑users to keep objectives clear, risks surfaced, and value creation undeniable.
Thought Leadership Feed field insights back into Tenex Labs, publish playbooks, and speak at industry events to cement Tenex as the “McKinsey for AI.”

Our Core Values

  1. We give a shit. We care deeply about all we do. We take pride in our work and are addicted to collecting “Wows” from customers. We sweat the details, see around corners, and are thoughtful in our approach. Excellence isn’t optional—it’s who we are.
  2. We take out the trash. No task is beneath us, and no ego is above the work. If something needs doing, we do it—whether or not anyone notices. We do the work to help the team, not to collect personal recognition.
  3. We never beat around the bush. Clear communication is kindness. We’re straightforward, open, and timely with our teammates—always direct, always respectful. Nobody should ever have to guess how we feel.
  4. We go down the rabbit hole. Then keep going. We constantly seek growth by any means necessary. Curiosity drives us to explore diverse ideas, perspectives, and cultures. "Because we’ve always done it that way" is never an acceptable answer. We actively challenge ourselves and each other to stay inspired, stay curious, and evolve our thinking.
  5. We do the right thing. Trust is our most valuable asset—earned slowly, lost instantly. Doing what’s right isn’t negotiable, even when it’s inconvenient, unpopular, or costly. Integrity guides every decision we make, without exception.
  6. We operate like Navy SEALs. Greatness doesn’t happen between 9 and 5. We willingly invest nights and weekends—not for optics or politics, but because genuine impact demands commitment. We work hard because our mission deserves nothing less.
  7. We share feedback. We listen to feedback. Feedback is our fastest path to excellence. We invite candid critique, meet it with curiosity—not ego—and act on it immediately. Every critique is a chance to level up ourselves and our teammates, so we default to collaboration, assume positive intent, and treat every interaction as a two‑way learning opportunity.
